Horrific injuries of disabled gran beaten by masked robbers with baseball bat - while she sat in WHEELCHAIR

A wheelchair-bound grandmother was left with horrific head and face injuries after she was battered senseless with a baseball bat during a vicious robbery.
Barbara Dransfield, a 63-year amputee, was attacked by two masked men in who burst into her home in the dead of night shouting: "Police, stay where you are."

The pair rained savage blows on her head and demanded cash before ransacking the house.
When they returned they found Mrs Dransfield on the phone to her husband Len, 64, begging for help- and continued their cowardly assaut.
Mr Dransfield, who was on his regular shift as a night watchman, was forced to listen to his wife of 45 years being further pummeled with the bat before the robbers fled with fishing tackle worth £5.

Police discovered the intruders had broken in by breaking the glass in the back door with a cobblestone.
Today Mrs Dransfield, a retired barmaid from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester who is better known as "Babs" was being treated in North Manchester General Hospital for a hairline fracture to her skull and multiple facial injuries.
Speaking from her hospital bed she said: "The pain I suffered was was absolutely excruciating and my husband says I look like I've done ten rounds with Mike Tyson

"I remember everything that happened. I remember every crack I got. I wasn't knocked unconscious though, I kept putting my arms up.
"The police came and thought I had been stabbed, blood was absolutely everywhere, I was covered in it and it was all over the floor and walls.
"I was so shocked more than anything I thought 'what are they doing in my house'.
"They kept asking for money, I kept saying 'I haven't got any' and they started hitting me with this baseball bat.

"They were bashing me all the time.
"I thought I was going to die, but I had to be brave didn't I? If I would have just let myself go they probably would have knocked me out. I tried to stay as calm as I could and stay hard to stop them.
"I don't want to go home, it's just whether it would affect me when I get home I don't know whether anyone would go back in or not.
"It happened right outside my bedroom door, my husband had a job cleaning it.
"It's very, very painful. All the bones in my face are fractured or broken. It's not a simple job.
The roof of my mouth had all gone, my nose, the top of my jaw, the bottom of my jaw and my eye sockets.
"They kept asking me for money and the cash, I kept saying I haven't got any. I got whacked again. I think they thought it would have either knocked me out or I'd have given up.
"You just would not think somebody would do that to another person. What if someone did that to their mother, how would they feel then?
"They would probably go berserk but it's alright for them to go out and do it to other people. If I could get my hands on them I would have to do something to them. They're evil."
The raid occurred between 12.40am and 2.40am on Tuesday July 19 after two men wearing balaclavas got into the house by breaking the glass in the back door with a cobblestone.
Mrs Dransfield who lost her leg in 2013 after an accident 11 years ago had been in bed but was woken up by the noise of the break-in and was confronted by the robbers when she went to investigate.
Her husband said: "Despite the beating, she's still acting like nothing has happened, as long as she can have a cup tea she's fine. She's tough, believe me she's tough, she's been through a lot. If she could have got hold of anything she would have used it.

"She phoned me up at 2:41am with me being on nights, if she can't sleep she phones me. I thought it was more ear ache she said 'I'm being battered with baseball bats, help', all I could hear was a baseball bat laying in to her.
"She just sat there and took the beatings. Every time they hit her they asked for money and every time she said no they hit her again. When they came in they shouted 'Police, stay where you are'.
"When I received that call of her, I just panicked. What I came back to, just carnage. I don't think Mike Tyson could have done a better job. She was still sat in her wheelchair in the hallway where it took place.
"We waited for the police to arrive, there was nothing else we could do. She was in a mess, in an absolute state."
The couple's son Darren, 28, a hospital support worker, said: "Mum's scared of coming back home but she's stubborn and determined, if she wants something she will get it. If she wants to do something, she will.
"She's a family woman, a fantastic grandma to the children. My son keeps on asking about her but I won't let him see her in this state."
Det Insp David Loughlin, of Greater Manchester Police said: "This was a vile attack on a vulnerable woman who was alone at home. "She has been left in hospital being treated for some nasty injuries which could have been even worse.
"We would urge anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously in the area or knows anything that can aid our investigation to come forward and help us catch those responsible for this attack."
