Former Super Eagles coach Adegboye
Onigbinde has commended the late wife of Teslim ‘Thunder’ Balogun as the
family celebrates her 18th year remembrance.
Onigbinde said Mulikat motivated the late Nigeria striker during his active days.
He said, “Balogun wouldn’t have become
so legendary if he never got the support of his wife, who consistently
attended matches played by her husband both for the national team and
his club. She made ‘Thunder’ a great asset to the nation. Balogun
himself was full of humour, humility, discipline and he was a good mixer
who also showed his dexterity in coaching.”
The former NFF Technical Director
added, “In 1958, when she (Mulikat) received a plea from the then
Premier of the Western Region, Chief ObafemiAwolowo, who asked her to
persuade her husband to dump his British club, Queens Park Rangers, to
return to Nigeria to assist the West Rovers to win the Challenge Cup,
she convinced her husband and he returned to help the club win the
title.”
